Jeweler By Design: Ruthie Murray

Save the date for our 4th annual "Jewelry By Design," September 25, 4:30-8:00 p.m. at Designer Gold. This year we are featuring our own artists and jewelry designers: Louisa Berky, Jeff Georgantes, Ruthie Murray, Orin Pacht and Paul Gross. The show will run from September 25 through October 10.

A native of Shawnee Mission, Kansas, Ruthie grew up making things in a house filled with pets and power tools.  She graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a degree in Illustration, a career path she would almost immediately abandon in order to return to the joy of making things - furniture at first, then jewelry.  Ruthie's work was met with immediate success, selling in galleries, museum gift shops, jewelry stores and Barney’s New York locations on both coasts.  She then spent several years developing and designing jewelry lines for a number of national brands, including Colibri and Iridesse and Tiffany and Company’s retail pearl venture.  Since moving to the Upper Valley nine years ago, Ruthie has re-focused her attention exclusively on her own collection.

Ball Bearing Neckpiece, sterling silver

Ruthie has always been fascinated by industry and machinery: the way rivets, hinges, ball bearings and methods of connection combine to create function.  Most recently, she has created her own slide components in silver and gold, allowing the wearer to customize the way each piece is worn.

Bolo Slide, 14 karat gold, diamond

Ruthie's collection is driven by form and function. Her work illustrates clean, elegant and timeless forms that showcase the inherent beauty of the material. Under Ruthie's detailed care, simple shapes are elevated to that of the eternal, resulting in jewelry that may be worn for years to come.
